Matt Serra vs Georges St. Pierre in Montreal In April 2008, Matt Serra is set to face Georges St. Pierre in GSP's hometown of Montreal, Quebec. This should be an interesting fight as the two indviduals seem so different.
Mixed Martial Arts fight fans will again be treated to a welterweight fight sure to excite. According to those in the mixed martial arts industry, many say Canada is a place where there is a very strong base of fans and participants. King of the Cage (KOTC) is very popular among Canadian fights fans and is broadcast on popular Canadian networks such as TSN. As well, many now famous stars fought in KOTC before gaining widespread fame in the American UFC such as Kevin 'the beastman' Eastman. Even well know heavyweight champ Randy Couture is said to be opening four gyms up north to take advantage of the interest from our Canadian neighbors in the sport. Couture will open his first Canadian gym in Etobicoke Ontario using such Canadian mixed martial arts experts such as Jeff Joslin.
With this large ground swell of MMA support, there is little surprise when the Canadian interm welterweight belt holder Georges 'Rush' St. Pierre takes on the American Matt Serra for the welterweight belt in April 2008. Matt Serra represents the typical New Yorker very well with his Italian-American heritage and a thick Brooklyn accent. GSP also represents Canada very well with his English which is heavily influenced by a French-Canadian accent. They also have very different images, Matt Serra with the brash, loud, and in-your-face attitude and GSP with the nice guy, polite, and all-business persona.
This welterweight fight will surely be a constrasting event with two fighters that are starkly different.
