MMA fighter spotlight: Anderson Silva
Some consider Anderson Silva to be the best pound-for-pound fighter in mixed martial arts. After an impressive 2007, many expect him to continue his success in 2008.

In certain combat sports such as boxing and mixed martial arts, there is a concept of pound-for-pound which is used to describe a fighter's ability adjusted for different weight classes. For instance if a fighter in the lightweight division is considered the nunmber 1 pound-for-pound fighter, it means that another fighter in another division, such as the heavy weight division, who is ranked number 2 pound-for-pound has less skill/ability than the lightweight fighter eventhough the two may never fight and even if they did, the heavyweight may still win given his simple size advantage.

Many consider Anderson Silva to be one of the best fighters in the MMA. Some even consider him to be the best pound-for-pound fighter in the MMA. This brazilian has had a fairly spectacular 2007 where he ran through a long list of impressive fighters. He beat Rich "Ace" Franklin in spectaular style using a Muay Thai clinch which Franklin simply did not have an answer to. He also went right through such well known top names as Chris Leben, Nathan Marquardt and Travis Lutter. Not only does he have an excellent stand up game, he is also a black belt in brazilian jiu-jitsu so his ground game is excellent as well.

With these impressive credentials and numerous successess, many expect Silva to continue his winning ways in 2008.
